Terms & Conditions

Last updated: September 2026

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of StatEM ("the Service", "we", "us", "our"), operated by an individual sole trader based in the United Kingdom. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. The Service

StatEM provides online revision materials — including flashcards and timed mock examinations — intended to help candidates prepare for the MRCEM Primary examination. Access is provided on a subscription/one-off purchase basis as described on our pricing page.

2. Eligibility

The Service is intended for qualified doctors and medical professionals preparing for postgraduate examinations. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the Service. By using the Service, you confirm that you are 18 or over.

3. Not medical or professional advice

StatEM is an educational revision resource only. Its content is not medical advice, is not a substitute for official curricula, textbooks, supervision or clinical judgement, and must not be relied upon for the diagnosis or treatment of any patient. We make no guarantee that using the Service will result in passing any examination. StatEM is an independent resource and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM).

4. Accounts

You must provide accurate registration information and keep your password secure. You are responsible for all activity under your account. Accounts are for a single individual's personal use and must not be shared. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms.

5. Free trial

We may offer a free trial that provides limited access to a sample of the flashcard content so you can evaluate the Service before purchasing. The scope of the trial is described on the Service and may be changed, limited or withdrawn at any time. The trial is provided "as is" and is subject to these Terms.

6. Payment and access

Payments are processed securely by Stripe; we do not store your full card details. Access is granted for the period stated at purchase (for example, 1, 3 or 6 months) as a one-off payment, and expires at the end of that period unless renewed. Prices may change, but changes will not affect access you have already purchased.

7. Refunds

Because the Service provides immediate access to digital content, by completing a purchase you request immediate access and acknowledge that you thereby lose your statutory 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 once access has begun. Accordingly, purchases are non-refundable once access has been granted, except where the Service is faulty, not as described, or where a refund is required by law (for example, a duplicate or erroneous charge). If you experience a genuine problem, contact us and we will deal with it fairly.

8. Intellectual property

All content on StatEM — including flashcards, questions, explanations, text, design, logos and software — is our intellectual property or used under licence, and is protected by copyright and other laws. It is provided solely for your personal revision. You may not copy, reproduce, screenshot for distribution, share, resell, publish, scrape, or create derivative works from any part of the Service, whether manually or by automated means, without our prior written permission. Content may be watermarked to trace unauthorised distribution. Breach of this clause may result in immediate termination and legal action.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the Service, including by attempting to gain unauthorised access, disrupt or attack the Service, upload malicious code, use it unlawfully, or use automated systems to extract content.

10. Availability of the Service

We aim to keep the Service available and running smoothly, but we do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. The Service may occasionally be unavailable for maintenance, updates, or reasons beyond our control. We are not liable for any unavailability of the Service.

11. Changes to the Service

We may add, change, or remove features of the Service, or discontinue part or all of it, as it develops. Where a change would materially reduce access you have already paid for, we will act reasonably and fairly.

12. Ending your account

You may stop using the Service and request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us. Any unexpired access is non-refundable in line with section 7. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms.

13. Limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, loss of profits, or examination outcomes arising from your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud). Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid us in the previous 12 months.

14. Changes and governing law

We may update these Terms from time to time; the current version will always be posted here. These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of its courts.
